Something I miss

One thing you may or may not know about me is...
That I used to write for the newspaper in high school and college.
I've always loved writing, so it was perfect for me.
My senior year, of high school, is when my writing really started to change.
It was the summer after I became a Christian and my passion changed.

I started writing about my relationship with God and my faith in Him.
I wrote about my past, my morals, my hopes.
I gave glimpses into my heart and life.
In college my writings got deeper, more personal.
I wrote about my struggles and how God was there.
I wrote about my pain and how I saw God in it.
I wrote about whatever was on my heart, whatever He placed there.
And I was unafraid.

I miss writing that way.
I miss writing with passion and conviction.
I miss writing without fear of what other's may think.
I struggle with that now because there is so much on my heart and in my life,
But I am afraid, afraid of what others will think.
Some of those people in my life and some in the blogging world.
And some things are too personal, but I still want to write it out.
I still want to share. Such a battle for me.
I miss this more than I can explain. It's a deep part of me, more than I share.
Do I write what I want, regardless of what others may think.
I think it's all about balance, but maybe I'll try to be more open here.
Maybe I'll even share stuff I wrote for the newspaper.

Do you struggle with this? What topics do you just not go near?
Do you want to be more open? Or less open?
Curious about your thoughts!

A passion of mine

I love to write.
The first time I remember writing a story was 3rd grade.
I couldn't wait to get done with my math so I could work on my story.

And then as I got older I would spend hours writing in my journal.
Writing about things going on in life such as my first crush and first heartache,
prayers to God, frustrations, anger, things I wanted to change, things I was thankful for.

In high school and some years in college I wrote for the school newspaper.
Writing was my way of getting my thoughts out.
I'd write about things I was going through.
Hard things.
Convictions.
Passions.
God things.
I loved it and felt like I was good at putting my thoughts into words.
I wrote without fear.
It didn't matter what others thought because they were my words and they were
important to me.

I miss that, writing that way....
Writing things I'm convicted and have strong feelings about,
things I believe, passions I have. I miss writing without fear.
I want to do more of that because its important to me, because I love it.

So, hopefully there will be more of that around here.

Rant and Rave: Writing

Last week I started my rant and rave about something you love post. I wrote about my new passion for photography, but this passion, I've had for some time. I love to write. It started when I was in junior high. I put my thoughts and feelings into poetry. Then in high school I started to journal, but it was more in letter form. I wrote letters to God. Its kind of the way I pray.

Those journals above are all from college. Yep, four years of my life in 12 journals. Crazy huh?
I apparently needed to pray a lot in college.
Its true.

I thought I'd share something I wrote. Its from college, but a poem. I'd share something else, but sometimes my writing was a bit on the nuts-o, emotional side. Don't want to scare you. Those prayers are for Gods ears.

At Your Feet:
My heart is something I should lay before you
You've been calling it for so long
Fully and surely I should give it all

I should You all my
Tears and heartache
Sins and failures
Pride and unforgiveness
Past and all my life
Lay them at Your feet

Yet, when the pressure starts to hit me
And I feel the tears begging to fall
My heart isn't something I can lay before you
Even though You've been calling it for so long

Fully and surely I hide it from You
I hold back all my
Tears and heartaches
Sins and failures
Pride and unforgiveness
My past and all my life
I can't lay them at Your feet

I know You're still calling to my heart
You'll call to it constantly until I give You all my
Tears and heartaches
Sins and failures
Pride and unforgiveness
Past and all my life
You will call until I can muster up the courage to lay them at Your feet

You've been calling my heart, Lord
Now I'm calling back to Yours
I cannot do this on my own
I need You to grab my hand Lord
And lead me to the cross
There You'll take my heart in Your hands and help  me give it all

There You will take my
Tears and heartaches
Comfort me
There You will take my
Sins and failures
Wipe them clean
There You will take my
Pride and unforgivness
Shape me
There You will take my past and all my life
Love me
Still you will love me

Sometimes writing is the only way I can get my thoughts and feelings out.
I just love to fill up a notebook. It leaves a satisfied feeling and I think God it so I enjoy writing for a reason - its how I've connected to Him for so long.

I'll be back later with my 30 by 30 challenge post.
